Sokol Detroit

Sokol Detroit is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting physical fitness and cultural education to families and individuals throughout the Dearborn Heights, MI community. As a unit of the Northeastern District of the American Sokol, we offer comprehensive fitness programming designed to build strength, endurance, and community connection. Our organization has deep roots in the greater metropolitan area, standing as one of the oldest non-profit organizations still operating in the region.

Our primary mission centers on family-focused physical fitness combined with educational initiatives that celebrate Czech and Slovak heritage and culture. We believe in the Sokol philosophy of developing both an educated mind and a healthy body, creating a strong and cohesive community in the process. Through our diverse programming and inclusive approach, we welcome members from all backgrounds and ethnicities who share our commitment to wellness and cultural appreciation.

Sokol, meaning "falcon" in Czech, represents the values of power, endurance, and keen perception that guide our organization. Since arriving in the United States in 1865, the American Sokol movement has expanded from coast to coast, bringing together people bonded by common interests in fitness, education, and community building. Sokol Detroit continues this tradition by serving the Dearborn Heights area with programming that honors our multicultural heritage while promoting the physical and mental well-being of our members and the broader community.
