Crete T.J. Sokol

Crete T.J. Sokol is a non-profit Czech organization dedicated to fostering mental and physical fitness in Crete, NE and surrounding communities. Since its founding on May 4, 1884, the organization has maintained its core mission of developing strong minds and bodies while promoting Czech heritage and education. The iconic Sokol Hall, located at 12th and Norman in Crete, Nebraska, stands as a registered National Historic Place and has served as a vital community center for nearly a century. Built in 1915 after the original structure was destroyed by fire, the hall represents the resilience of the organization's founding creed and values. Today, Crete T.J. Sokol is actively restoring this historic building to its former grandeur while expanding its programming and community offerings. The organization plans to provide youth gymnastics programs, educational and cultural activities, and make the facility available for community rentals. Membership in Crete T.J. Sokol welcomes individuals of all backgrounds who share a commitment to physical fitness, mental development, and community service. The organization is experiencing renewed interest from both Czech and non-Czech members of the Crete community who recognize the cultural and historical significance of preserving Sokol Hall. To support restoration efforts and fund community programs, the organization hosts two of Nebraska's premier haunted attractions: Terror On 12th Street and Bone Shaker.
